Be the show, not the commercial – Why “content marketing” will make you rich!
Your marketing will start working when you stop marketing to people and start giving them exciting, enjoyable content that they WANT to engage with! Ask yourself what resonates with YOU and duplicate that. Do YOU like watching commericals on tv? My guess is “Hell No”. Commercial time is when we get up, grab a drink, check email or whatever until the “Show” comes back on. Ask yourself if you are a Commercial creator or a Show creator!!
Think of your campaign as being the content, not the boring crap in between the content.
Flyers are becoming a dead form of media, great photos and messages are what will get your message out to a wider audience. There are plenty of great ways to get your message out there without flyers. Flyer marketing is dying a slow death. I love the guidelines on how to create a great Facebook post here.
TIP: Don’t post a link back to your website in your Facebook posts. Facebook will automatically censor your reach if it knows you are trying to “market”. Put your link in the first comment to keep your audience as broad as possible.
On that note, think about it like this: Myspace allowed wide open advertising and spam anywhere and everywhere and look what happened to them. I’ve said it often and as a marketer I can honestly say “Marketers ruin everything”. More accurately “BAD Marketers ruin everything”. BAD marketers create spam. They take the easy way out. They put forth the least possible effort.
These people are the copying/ pasting assholes that quickly turn every interesting platform and social media channel into a spam platform. Thus the use of rules, regulations and content blocking bots that effect real people posting real, relevant and valuable content.
Content marketing is 67% cheaper and 3 times more effective!
Creativity is free, remember that. Buying ineffective Facebook ads and throwing money at a problem is lazy. And expensive. Try to get out of the mindset of looking at what everyone else is doing and duplicating it. The amount of businesses who do their homework and actually have original, engaging campaigns is staggeringly low. These days people are actually “copying/ pasting” terrible ideas and perpetuating the mundane, ineffective spammy approaches that haven’t worked for a decade.
There’s good news here. With a great content marketing approach, it’s EASY to rise above the masses and create an awesome brand!
